Partner Event: Virtual Book Launch with Ayin Press, Jewish Women’s Archive, & Lilith

Join us to celebrate the launch of Alicia Ostriker’s Turn It & Turn It, an electric collection of essays and poems by America’s most prominent feminist Jewish poet and critic.

Alicia will be joined by Rabbi Jill Hammer, PhD, author of Undertorah and coauthor of The Hebrew Priestess. They will reflect on their long engagement with feminist Jewish thought and practice, discuss the making of the book, and explore women as tricksters, midrash as a creative practice, and the relationship between poetry and sacred text.

The conversation will include selected readings from Turn It & Turn It and conclude with an audience Q&A.

Turn It & Turn It brings together essays and poems by feminist Jewish poet and critic Alicia Ostriker. Through feminist midrash, literary criticism, and personal reflection, Ostriker reimagines biblical women as activists and tricksters, challenges patriarchy, and explores the divine feminine in Jewish life.

She also considers poets from different traditions who find new meaning in inherited sacred texts. Taking its title from a rabbinic call to return to Torah again and again, the collection explores how poetry and creative interpretation can renew our relationship with tradition.

This event is cosponsored by the Yetzirah, Jewish Women’s Archive and Lilith magazine. RSVP for this event here.
