March 28: Contemporary Jewish Poets: Kabbalat Shabbat & Offsite Reading

At this year’s 2025 AWP Conference, Yetzirah will host it’s third “Contemporary Jewish Poets: Kabbalat Shabbat & Offsite Reading” at Der Nister, a synagogue and cultural center in downtown LA only a half-hour walk from the Convention Center.

After a warm and welcoming Kabbalat Shabbat (open to people of all traditions), we’ll feature readers Rodger Kamenetz, Rachel Kaufman, Yeva Johnson, Jeffrey Levine, Jane Medved, Maya Pindyck, and Marcela Sulak, hosted by Dan Alter and Jessica Jacobs, and followed by an oneg to to nourish your body after all of the delicious poetry.

When: March 28, 6-7:30 pm PDT
Where: Der Nister, 639 S. Spring St. 14a in the Historic Core, a half hour walk from the Convention Center (in-person only)
Directions:

  • Walking—We recommend walking east on Olympic until Hill, turn left on Hill and go up to 7th street. Cross the street to walk on its North side and walk down it until Spring. At Spring, turn left until you are at the building housing the LA Cafe. You will be let in by one of us, or call Der Nister on the call box by cycling through the businesses. Then go up to the 14th floor using an elevator. On one of the elevators, the numbers are off — ignore them. You will then be directed by signs to Der Nister at the end of the hall.
  • Driving—If you drive, we recommend parking near Hill and 7th because of the expensive weekend valet parking on Spring due to the nightclubs.
