Biography

Cathleen Cohen is a poet, painter and teacher who created the We the Poets program to support children’s creativity and literacy (www.theartwell.org) in the Philadelphia area and beyond, including diverse Jewish and Arab communities in Israel. She was the 2019 Poet Laureate of Montgomery County, PA. After years of teaching poetry in synagogues and other faith-based settings, she authored Poetry and Jewish Prayer: A Handbook for Teachers (Artwell 2002). Her poems appear in many literary journals and anthologies. Cathleen’s most recent collections of poems are Camera Obscura (Moonstone Press), Etching the Ghost (Atmosphere Press) and Sparks and Disperses (Cornerstone Press). Her paintings are on view at Cerulean Arts Gallery (www.ceruleanarts.com) and www.cathleencohenart.com. Cathleen teaches poetry writing and art courses online for adults through such venues as Main Line School Night (www. https://mainlineschoolnight.org), Penn Studio School of Art (www. https://pennstudioschool.com/) and Ritualwell (www. https://ritualwell.org/ ).
