Biography

Poet, writer, entrepreneur and Jewish educator (ret.) Rhonda Rosenheck was born in Cortland, NY, in 1962 and raised in Plainview, Long Island, NY. Her publications include Yiddische Yoga: OYsanas for Every Generation (humor, 2016) and The Five Books of Limericks (Poetry, 2023) with Ben Yehuda Press, and Looking: Out, Up, In & Under Rocks with Elephant Tree House Press (2018). She self-published a form-translation of the Book of Jonah titled, Sin No More! A Biblical Sea Shanty, in 2022.  A voracious learner, Rosenheck earned a BA in Literature and Rhetoric at SUNY-Binghamton in 1982. Her subsequent Judaic studies journey has included a Jewish-education fellowship at Hebrew University and for-credit and professional courses taken at WUJS, Hebrew College, Nova Southeastern University, PARDES, the Shalom Hartman Institute, Harvard University’s School of Education, Teacher’s College, Mandel Teacher-Educators Institute, Union Theological Seminary and HUC-JIR. She earned a Master of Jewish Education degree at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America while also participating in their Day School Leadership Training Institute, rabbinical school and doctoral studies programs. Since 2013, Rosenheck has participated in dozens of writing courses, conferences, workshops and retreats. Juried acceptances include the Rockvale Writers Colony, TN, USA (2020) and The Fish Factory Artists Residency (June 2023) in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. Rosenheck lives between Albany, NY, and Pittsfield, MA, in a rural town that was a Jewish-farming community throughout the 20th century; she belongs to the area’s sole remaining “farmers’ shul.”
