Workshop: Eve Grubin, “Jewish Love Poems”

In this generative poetry workshop, we will write and read poems about one of the most difficult subjects for writers: romantic love. In this workshop, taking place soon after Tu B’Av, the Jewish holiday of romantic love, we will explore questions such as: Do examples of or discussions about romantic love appear in classic Jewish texts? If so, how does traditional Judaism understand this kind of love? What can we learn from these examples? We will write poems in response to these texts and our conversations, and we will be inspired by reading great Jewish love poems.

Eve Grubin is the author of the collections of poems: Morning Prayer (Sheep Meadow Press, 2005), The House of Our First Loving, a chapbook (Rack Press, 2016), and Grief Dialogue, a chapbook (Rack Press, 2022).
